I never bought one single jar of baby food for my son when he was a baby. I made everything at home from scratch. Baby food is expensive and it didn't take me long to realize that making my own baby food was a much better idea for so many reasons. First off, it's much cheaper and you get more for your money. Also, when making your baby's food, you know exactly what's going in it. It's a win win situation that will save you time, money, and is a much healthier choice for your baby as long as you buy organic.
You can get creative with this and have fun with your recipes. You can boil or bake your food. Baking adds a different flavor to the food. When you boil, use the same water that you boiled the food in to blend the food with. Adjust the consistency based on your baby's age. Make it smoother and creamier for the younger ones and chunkier for the older ones. You can either serve your proteins, veggies, and starches mixed together or serve them separately. But either way, get creative and have fun with your recipe combos. __________________________________________________________________________________
STORAGE
Store extra food by serving size in little sandwich bags, ice trays, small plastic containers, and/or glass jars (more eco-friendly). Keep them in the freezer and pull out what you need when you need it. __________________________________________________________________________________
CAGN'S FAVORITE RECIPES(when he was a baby, that is ;))
Turkey Sweet Potato Green Peas
Either boil or bake your turkey. Baking will taste yummier but boiling will be faster. Boil the peas and peel and bake the sweet potato in the oven. When everything is cooked, blend ingredients together or separately using the water you boiled the veggies and/or turkey in. Blend until food is at the consistency you are happy with. __________________________________________ Chicken and Pears (or Apples) Carrots Brown Rice
Boil or bake the chicken and pears (or apples) together. Boil your carrots and brown rice separately. Place the chicken and pears into the blender together and blend well. Do the same with the carrots and rice. I would serve the chicken and pears, carrots, and brown rice separately but there is nothing wrong with mixing it all together as well. _____________________________________
Salmon Broccoli Potatoes
Bake the Salmon, boil the broccoli, and boil or bake the potatoes. Peel the potatoes and blend all three ingredients together well. _______________________________________________________________
For Desert Cagn Loved:
Banana (blended with breast milk if you have it) Applesauce _________________________________________________
The key is to keep these meals very simple. A baby's digestive system is delicate and still developing, so you do not want to season the food with herbs and spices as that can cause gas or worse. Keep the food very organic as the flavors will come from the food itself and the combination choices you make. There is no need to introduce spices and herbs just yet. Get creative, keep it simple, and enjoy!!
